Martina Kartman

Martina Kartman graduated from the UW in 2009 with a dual degree in Law, Societies, and Justice and Women Studies, with a minor in Human Rights. As an undergraduate, she deeply enjoyed her involvement with human rights work in Guatemala and working as a tutor in the Seattle School Districts. After graduation, she traveled for ten months in Latin America, the Carribean and Africa through the Bonderman Travel Fellowship. She is currently working as a legal assistant for the Institutions Project at Columbia Legal Services, focusing on protecting the civil rights of people confined in Washington’s jails, prisons, and mental health facilities, as well as working on alternatives to institutionalization, re-entry, and reductions in recidivism.
